DESCRIPTION: WW - Omega Speedmaster Professional Chronograph, Pre-Moon, ref 145.012-68, manual wind, 42mm x 48mm to lug tips, 20mm lug width, original stainless steel screw back case, "DON" (Dot Over Ninety) black tachymetre bezel, brown leather strap, original black step dial with applied Omega logo and lume painted indices, three inset subregisters for minute recording, hour recording and subsidiary seconds, 17J, cal 321, s#26552456, triple signed. The Omega Speedmaster was chosen by NASA in 1965 after outperforming numerous other contenders in rigorous testing. They were first issued during the Gemini program using the older straight lug style 105.002. More Speedmasters were purchased starting with the Apollo program astronauts being issued the "Professional" marked 105.012's in a beefier case with crown and pusher protectors as seen here. They remain flight qualified by NASA to this day and modern interpretations of this watch are still in production.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, chronograph runs and resets a little after zero, recommend an overhaul by a watchmaker, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, no oxide; excellent dial with discolored lume indices; fine hands with light paint loss and discolored lume; polished case shows light wear, still retains some of its original factory finishing, nearly mint DON bezel, several dings on caseback from misuse of a case wrench; Omega signed flat foot crown shows hardly any wear; good plastic crystal.
ESTIMATE: $5000 - $9000
